Hi everyone this weeks Guest Post is by Constance Dunn, Author of Practical Glamour: Presenting Your Most Beautiful & Polished Self to the World
1 – Be a 24-7 style sponge
Observe and be conscious of what you find compelling in the style of men and women around you. Seize on the specific details that draw you, then transpose them to your personal style.
2 – Know your colors
Learn to recognize the shades that will enhance your unique hair-eye-skin combo. Explore the world of color to find yours, then stick with them. You’ll reduce shopping mistakes and look even more beautiful.
3 – Project your spirit in your movement and manner
Why are street style photographs more compelling than the tortured poses of pinched-face mannequins in magazines? Because it’s the real-life capture of an individual in his or her own skin. Think of your garments, shoes and accessories as accents of your physical projection, not the other way around.
4 – Be a quality hawk
Because you can’t afford to buy clothes that will look busted after only two wearings, learn to differentiate the good from the bad. And don’t assume that costly items are quality items.
5 – Ignore fashion fads, and most trends while you’re at it
When have clones been cool? Fads hit fast, are seen everywhere, then die quickly. Trends last longer and usually are just recycled classics. Adopt only those trends that flatter your frame and project your personality. Sprinkle a note here, a note there.
6 – Create visual symmetry
Weave a consistent thread of details, color or theme through even your most basic runaround ensemble. It will make you look more polished and pulled-together, and you’ll feel the difference.
7 – Realize that style has zilch to do with money
Creativity, identity and resourcefulness make up the curious brew of style. For that reason, the lass or lad with the lovely vibe wearing something fantastic from the thrift shop will always outshine the mean creature in couture.
8 – Don’t compromise on fit
You’ll never wear it. You’ll never wear it. You’ll never wear it.
9 – Commit to upkeep
Great style is impossible while wearing items that are stained, worn or beat-down. Read the care labels on your clothes and follow them. Regularly maintain your shoes, bags and accessories, or pay someone else to do it for you.
10 – Seize the freedom of style
It’s not off-limits to anyone. Age, budget, position in life: none of these disqualify you from the pleasure of expressing who you are with your grooming and garments, and reaping the many rewards that come with it.
